People cheating one another is common, it can happen at any time, sometimes to the point where father and child, brother and brother are ruthless with each other; but throughout, one knows at most oneself clearly. To lessen such risks in a life, the Yi helps for a stretch; how one faces them will rest with the person — the Yi only gives a view, the feeling rests with each of us.

At the start, in the way the question is put: if the substance is not right, the road will be wrong. To know whether another will cheat you, the first question must aim clearly at the querent, weighing the person above the matter, or it will be wrong.

Two people going into business together — is there profit in it?

The question is the start; the substance is what matters. The querent is concerned with whether this partner is sound, whether they will cheat. And then one reads the Response line (for a person not of one's blood) and knows. A still Void Response line means a set intent from the start to cheat you through falseness; carrying the Opposing line is likewise, but leading you along rather than at once. Break, Weak, rootless all report that the other party's ability is poor and will spoil the matter. Whereas moving Void or Break means that before the nearest point of timing, the other party does not have the ability, and from the point of timing on it will be fine. But the reverse holds with a Prosperous Target line and a Response line carrying the Opposing line in the Void: then before the point of timing it can be done, but from that point on the other party will cheat you. That is, at first there is no such intent, and from the point of the Response line on, there will be the intent and the cheating. If the Response line has no problem, only then is the Target line weighed, to know whether the matter can be done.

This is the reverse of the form of question: “Is going into business together sound?” — where one does not care about the partner, only about profit. Then the Target line shows the business, the Response line shows the customers' attitude, the Self line is oneself, and the Source line of the Self line or of the Target line reports the partner. Besides, in form number 1, if the Self line is spoilt — by Void, Weak, rootless… — that too reports the matter spoilt, because one's own ability is limited and so one cannot partner and profit.

The Response line carrying the Opposing line in other matters

Likewise with other matters: if the Response line carries the Opposing line it is also a matter of seizing. Say one means to give away a dog or a cat and asks whether the new owner is sound: carrying the Opposing line is harm. Asking about lending, the Response line carrying the Opposing line means they will not lend. Or asking whether the other party will seize the capital: the Response line carrying Parents means no, because the Target line for capital is Parents, not Wealth. This is why knowing clearly what one wants to ask matters so much.

Signing

In the matter of signing, if the Self line is Void, one does not have the ability to do it oneself, whether the querent is the partner or a salesperson — it is the same either way.

Going to see someone for a favour

• If one wants to see someone for a favour and asks whether the meeting is sound, it must be broken down: what is the first priority? If the question is whether the meeting can take place, a Void Target line means the other side is not at home; but if one does not care about that, then a Void Target line means the other party is avoiding, or cheating — the upshot in both is that the matter is not done
• As for the Tomb, it is delay: the other party does not want to. But if Prosperous, and not carrying the Opposing line, pressing for it oneself will get it done
