pregnancy reading (Thai Ky) — what is it? A pregnancy reading usually takes Offspring as the Target line; it differs little from an ordinary hexagram, but some points keep mother and child safe.

Reading a pregnancy usually takes Offspring as the Target line; the reading differs little from an ordinary hexagram, but the following points should also be noted, so that both child and mother are safe.

Mother and child

If the mother asks, read the Self line and Offspring. Self and Offspring both sound means mother and child both well; but if the Self line has a moving Hostile line, then the mother will likely suffer stress in pregnancy, or after it, for the reason that the Hostile line shows. The way to deal with it is to find the factor or element causing this, and review everything — conditions, nutrition… — to avoid after-effects. As for the child, if the Target line is Prosperous but there is a moving Hostile line, then supplement and guard for the long road according to the Five Elements: Earth is nutrition, Metal is calcium, iron… Note that Water with the White Tiger is blood, so mind the mother's blood supply if hers is a rare group — find someone of the same group in advance, to avoid searching when it is urgent.

Asking during the pregnancy

During the pregnancy, if the child is well and the mother is well, for sudden questions such as how the child's health is, Six Clashes and the Void with Prosperity are no problem
But during the pregnancy, if there is an illness and one asks how the illness is, then Six Clashes and the Void are read as the illness being distant if the pregnancy is over 1 month

The time of conceiving

For those having difficulty conceiving, Offspring is the time of conceiving, or the time when conceiving is easiest; in that stage, trying actively for a child will go well.

Determining the sex

As to determining the sex, the way to determine it rests entirely on what the querent wants. Some hope for a boy, some for a girl; that want is a natural want and there is nothing wrong with it at all, but if one has not grasped what the querent wants, the reading will surely go wrong. For each want, Offspring stands for whether that want comes about, and not for a difficult birth or a problem with the child. The hexagram reads only Offspring as the Target line, not the Self line. If the hexagram is sound (not injured or controlled), the child follows the want; if the hexagram is spoilt, the child goes against the want. And then Offspring changing into the Officer line, or the Officer line changing into Offspring, is likewise the image of a spoilt hexagram, with no bearing on the child's health: if the hexagram is sound, a want for a boy gives a boy, and the other way round.

A child hard to keep

In pregnancy, the Officer line changing into Offspring, or Offspring changing into the Officer line, is the image of a child hard to keep. But why is it not Offspring being spoilt, rather Prosperous and then changing? This, by experience, is because matters of the child turn out to be bound up with the spiritual and so cannot be kept; if one wants to deal with it, dealing with it on the spiritual side may help. This has been seen in fact: after it was dealt with (the one who dealt with it was not oneself), it turned out well, though before that the ultrasound and much else had all concluded the child would be hard to keep
But if the want is simply for a child, say after long difficulty conceiving, then the Officer line changing into Offspring at the Self line means there will be one, with nothing to do with health at all

Difficulty conceiving

For those having difficulty conceiving, the Opposing line at the Self line means the problem is one's own. The problems are countless, not necessarily of health. Some, through pressure, through a mind full of worries, do not conceive; some, through nutrition, have a body that will not accept carrying more…. But through the hexagram it can be known and dealt with. For example: Metal at the Self line means one's own metallic make-up is not sound. Metal not being sound has many causes in fact, such as phosphorus, or too much or too little salt (Na+)… This must be noted and screened for. Or Earth, meaning nutrition has a problem: Weak is too thin and Prosperous is overweight…. But if the Dark Warrior holds the Self line, one wants it too much and it becomes pressure; and the Flying Serpent means one is too stressed — if one cannot let the body loose, it will never come about, or it will not go to the end of the pregnancy. Note this.

Example

Here is an example of such a case: a woman asked when she would have a child through IUI (the draft carries no figure)

Feedback: Yesterday, 17.4.2021, still not pregnant, have had 1 more IUI, fed up, not thinking about a child any more (already had a girl before)

Comment: one hexagram has one Target line; in this hexagram the Target line is Offspring, Wealth is not read. The Hai line was not clashed into substance by the change, and combined with the Offspring line and the Month into a Wood frame; this Wood frame controls Offspring, so a child is not possible. This is because the Self line too is part of the make-up of the Target line, so she herself is part of the cause — that part may be a pressured environment, or wanting it so much that it becomes a burden…. and so it does not come about. To have one, another way must be found, such as setting oneself free.
